Recruitment figures… a successful start to the 2023-24 academic year!

An increase in numbers is always good news. In fact, on both the student and teacher fronts, quantity is synonymous with quality for the new academic year!

Recruitment 2023-24

Thanks to its multi-campus strategy, its international appeal, and the launch of new study programmes, Excelia continues to attract more and more students!

This is all the more remarkable given the current pressure on the higher education sector in France. One of the reasons for this pressure is the fact that students used to be recruited after a 2-year DUT university diploma, but this qualification has now been converted into a 3-year BUT technical diploma, which has resulted in a shortfall of some 200 to 250 students. Furthermore, preparatory classes have been losing their popularity and there has been a 10% drop in student enrolment from this 2-year study path.

In contrast, Excelia’s overall enrolment is up by 7% this year!

  • A closer look at our impressive recruitment figures

This growth has been driven by our Tours campus, which passed the 1,000-student mark compared to 790 last year, and has set an objective of reaching 2,000 students by 2025. The number of students in La Rochelle has stabilised at 3,000 whilst our Paris campus has seen its numbers rise from 65 to 185. Finally, our Orleans campus has welcomed some 346 students this year, compared to 319 in 2022-2023.
What’s more, the international market is showing a marked upturn, with a 50% increase in business activity, thanks in particular to the work of our overseas offices and our teams across all five continents, including those in France (La Rochelle, Tours, Orleans and Paris), who are specifically responsible for guiding and assisting international applicants.
Excelia representatives provide individual, personalised support from the very first time prospective students make contact right up until their graduation. Candidates have the opportunity to meet our teams at student fairs organised in their home country, at presentations or even during information sessions in Excelia offices for one-to-one in-person meetings, as well as by email or WhatsApp!
Thanks to the dedication and commitment of our overseas offices, and after years of reticence due to the health crisis, students from India and China are now coming back, alongside new recruits from Central and Sub-Saharan Africa and North Africa.

  • A multi-programme, multi-campus dimension

Certain programmes are doing particularly well, such as the Master in Management in La Rochelle, where the possibility of joining straight out of High School has led to the enrolment of around 60 students. In addition, the Digital Communication School has welcomed a first intake of 15 students in Tours.
It is this multi-campus dimension that will continue to consolidate the group’s growth by promoting inter-campus mobility. Real estate is therefore a key factor in our success and, as such, the La Rochelle campus is due to be modernised, and student accommodation issues addressed, whilst the acquisition of the Paris campus last June will provide a further boost to Excelia’s growth in the capital, with the goal of welcoming 1,500 students to the Paris site within the next 3 years. And, in Tours, a new campus due to open in 2025 will also strengthen Excelia’s presence and offer new prospects for growth.

  • Research-active Faculty at the forefront

Excelia’s teaching teams are made up of industry professional lecturers, experts from the business world, who work alongside research-active Faculty members, whose respective specialities are firmly linked to at least one of Excelia’s three areas of research: Sustainable Development and Corporate Social Responsibility – Tourism Management – Agility, Innovation and Digitalisation (AID).
As at 1st September 2023, Excelia has 110 permanent Faculty members, 83 of whom hold a Doctorate (PhD): 87 in La Rochelle, 19 in Tours, and 4 in Paris (of which two are new appointments and two internal transfers from La Rochelle and Tours).
Furthermore, 56% are international, and there’s a perfect gender parity… 50/50!
