An original and innovative teaching method: Students from Year 1 of the Bachelor in Business in Orleans took part in a fascinating adventure to learn about the Marketing Mix
Prepare to drop anchor!
Students in their second semester of Year 1 of the Bachelor in Business in Orleans took part in an unusual activity focussing on the Marketing Mix.
Our freshwater sailors ‘set sail’ with Privateer Julien Mercier for an amusing adventure!
Julien Mercier, creator of a mobile escape game on the theme of pirates, accompanied our young sailors in the analysis of marketing strategy under the direction of their teacher Didier Thalmann. There is nothing better than a tangible case and direct discussions with the captain of the ship to reconcile quality work with realistic proposals.
The Malle de Jack le Borgne (Jack le Borgne’s Treasure Chest) is an Escape Game on the theme of pirates, which can be hired to play at your own pace and wherever you want. The emphasis is on autonomy (playing at your own pace), mobility (the ability to play at home, outdoors, indoors, etc.), the quality of the material, which is handmade, and the immersive nature of the game (with decoration/clothing/background music).
Hoist the sails!
This last semester saw the first ‘sea voyage’ taking place. First of all, the crew made a stopover on Discovery Island in order to understand the product, the business environment, the market, player segmentation, etc. They thought about several questions which were then put to Privateer Julien Mercier. With answers to their questions, they went port side towards Ogygie Island where they analysed the answers, prepared recommendations and considered possible avenues to explore regarding the product, in accordance with a predefined framework. This research work resulted in a summary presenting suggestions and improvements. The team managed to seize the emerald and prevent One-Eyed Jack from cutting off their heads! Proudly, the Privateer thanked his crew, who were all promoted and were finally able to return to dry land!
An innovative pedagogical approach
This approach takes its inspiration from Design Thinking and Brainwriting. Design thinking draws on the thinking and toolbox of designers to enable everyone to be creative and participate in innovation. It enables all kinds of problems to be solved using collective intelligence, even in areas traditionally far removed from design. As for brainwriting, a kind of written brainstorming, it allows everyone to present their ideas, and to alternate between phases of generating ideas in writing and phases of consulting the ideas of others.
The combination of these two methodologies makes it possible to not only develop creativity but to place it at the heart of group work.
“Most people make the mistake of thinking that design is what it looks like (...) That’s not what we think design is. (...) Design is how it works.” Steve Jobs
