Jérôme Piriou, research lecturer at Excelia Business School, has just published a book entitled La région touristique (the tourist region) with ISTE Editions.
A member of the management research centre (CEREGE), Jérôme Piriou has a Doctorate in Geography and is a research lecturer at Excelia Business School. His research focusses on local development and spatial considerations of tourism stakeholders.
This book presents the schools of thought and interpretations of ‘regions’ as put forward by geographers since the beginning of the twentieth century. It deals with the reasoning of the actors identified as operating a tourist destination on a regional scale and identifies the region as a local area that has been jointly created. It analyses the multi-level regional network of tourist sites created according to tourist mobility.
By presenting several methods of measuring tourist regions, this book helps provide a better understanding of the spatial practices of tourists and to anticipate the actions of tourism professionals.
