François Talbot - Digital Marketing Analyst, COVEO Group
An openness to the World
My first internship was in Sydney, Australia, my second in London and during my third year, I went to study in Singapore.
I have now just settled in Canada and realise that all these previous experiences have provided me with adaptability skills and the necessary common sense… so useful in a new cultural environment. In addition, I now find it easy to deal with all the many legal and administrative procedures associated with my new professional challenge.
An accelerator of personal development
It was my stay in Australia that really helped me to become independent. I discovered a pace of work there that is very different to that of Europe, and where the focus is on employee well-being. My second internship, in London, enabled me to gain in maturity. There, I learned a lot about human relationships by means of complex management methods. It was character building. The core course content provided by the BBA is supplemented with savoir-faire and interpersonal skills. These are essential for working with intercultural teams. I now realise how important these values are, I pay much more attention to the behaviour of the people around me and I am far more at ease with other cultures.
A new life in Canada
At first, I looked for a job in an English-speaking country, but I didn’t get many replies from the companies. In Quebec, the value of our degree is recognised and it was easier to talk about my different internship experiences. After my first job in Canada working for iProspect, I have just been recruited as a digital marketing analyst working on the digital environment in a new company called Coveo. The corporate culture is very pleasant – employees are expected to be flexible, but there are fewer hierarchical constraints and also more recognition. I’m learning a new way of thinking – this will be essential in the long term. I’m going forward step by step, my learning phase is far from over and I still have the BBA spirit – I’m always on the move. I now feel at home here, living abroad is a continuation of the BBA International, I still want to experience the unexpected and discover new things…
