The voice of the Student Senate, the path of collective engagement.

Excelia Business School once again stands out for its innovative approach to student governance with the creation of the Student Senate. Launched in January 2024, this unprecedented initiative brings together 470 "student senators" from all Excelia campuses, providing a unique platform to contribute to the strategic direction of the school. This body is part of a co-construction approach where students are fully involved in the life of their institution, thereby enhancing their engagement and their sense of belonging at Excelia.

A representative and collaborative body

The Student Senate is chaired by Tamym ABDESSEMED, Deputy General Director and Dean of Excelia Business School. He is accompanied by Myriam BENABID, Director of Development Missions, and Lucile OUVRARD, Director of Student Engagement. This body operates on a balanced functioning: student vice-presidents, elected by their peers, work closely with the leadership to prepare sessions and structure discussions.

Comprising ambassadors, academic delegates, and association leaders, the Senate reflects the diversity and richness of the student community at Excelia.

Séléna POIBLANC
“Once you sit on the Senate, you have a voice, and you make it heard in a collective intelligence approach. It's an opportunity to embrace wholeheartedly!”
Séléna POIBLANC
Vice-President of the Senate

A BBA1 student and ambassador for her SCAP involvement, Séléna POIBLANC was elected with 53% of the votes during a multi-campus video conference vote last December. Julian MINS (MGE L2) serves as the substitute vice-president. Furthermore, the energy and commitment of other candidates, Enzo PARISE (MGE M2), Matthieu CUISSET (BB2), and Victor SAMSON (MGE L1), are valued through their participation in the presidency office.

Following a motion voted by the senators, the two outgoing vice-presidents, Vincent REGNARD and Milan JOVASEVIC, are automatic members of the Senate for a period of two years, ensuring continuity in the reflections and actions already undertaken. This process allows capitalising on the experiences of previous representatives and ensures effective project transmission.

A decision-making and participative body

The Student Senate meets three times a year, in December, February, and April, to debate the major issues of the school. The sessions, organised as webinars, allow remote functioning and promote broad participation. This approach guarantees inclusivity and ensures that every student, regardless of their campus, can contribute to the discussions.

Tamym ABDESSEMED emphasises the importance of this initiative: “Given its size and scope, the Senate allows us to function through collective intelligence. Crossing so many perspectives documents and enriches our strategic thinking, closely aligned with the interests and aspirations of the student community.”

The Student Senate has also adopted a charter outlining its commitments, as well as a meaningful slogan: “The Student Senate of Excelia Business School, the path of engagement.” This illustrates the concrete impact of this body, which has already played a decisive role in important decisions, such as choosing the name of the event celebrating the 20th anniversary of Humacité©. A project still confidential, according to Séléna POIBLANC, but one that shows the Senate’s capacity to influence strategic decisions at the school.

An initiative at the service of the student experience

The Student Senate is not limited to a consultative function; it is also a driver of proposals and an incubator of ideas to improve student life. Numerous themes are addressed during the sessions, ranging from improving infrastructures to evolving academic paths, as well as organising major school events.

By giving students a voice and valuing their initiatives, Excelia Business School reaffirms its commitment to a participatory pedagogy and a stimulating academic environment. With the Student Senate, the school demonstrates that it listens to its community and encourages its students to become actors of change.

With this collective and inclusive dynamic, Excelia confirms its commitment to innovating in governance and placing its students at the heart of its development, in an approach of collective intelligence and active engagement. This initiative strengthens Excelia’s mission: to train responsible leaders capable of contributing meaningfully to the society of tomorrow.
