As part of the Blue Education Experience, one of Excelia Business School’s key initiatives aimed at raising awareness of the ecological transition, the school has launched the Water Fresk. This entertaining, collaborative workshop has been designed to help students understand the vital importance of water in western society. Consisting of 57 cards split into 4 games, it provides a comprehensive overview of the issues linked to freshwater and its use, and the impact of human activity on its life cycle. This workshop, introduced for the start of the 2023-2024 academic year, is initially aimed at first-year students but may well be extended to all students at a later date.
This workshop was initially launched in 2021 by the association Eau’Dyssée whose goal is to disseminate scientific and technical information about water and all associated issues.
It is based on a similar concept to the Climate Fresk.
Raising awareness of the key role played by water in the ecological transition
Through the Blue Education Experience, Excelia encourages its students to familiarise themselves with key issues linked to environmental conservation, and the Water Fresk dovetails perfectly with this approach.
- The first game, The Natural Water Cycle, enables participants to explore in detail the different elements that make up the water cycle, and the processes that link them. From evaporation to condensation to precipitation, students develop a better understanding of the vital role of water in nature and its effect on the equilibrium of our planet.
- The second game, The Anthropogenic Water Cycle, focusses on the different stages through which water must pass before it can be used by humans. This part of the Fresk also tackles the problem of water not being returned, underlining the challenges involved in responsibly managing this precious resource. Participants learn about the consequences of our activities on the water cycle and are encouraged to consider solutions for more sustainable use.
- The third game, The Impact of Human Activity, explores the multitude of uses of water by humans. Students are required to trace the impact of human activities on water and its cycle, highlighting the pressures exerted on this invaluable resource. This theme helps them understand the importance of water conservation and the need to rethink our habits and practices.
A workshop based on reliable, verified sources
As an essential part of the Blue Education Experience, Excelia Business School attaches great importance to relying on sound, verified scientific knowledge. Consequently, the Water Fresk is based on reliable sources, guaranteeing the quality of the information presented during the workshop. Furthermore, an experienced Gamemaster allows participants to interact and collaborate under expert supervision.
“The Water Fresk is Excelia’s first step in the Blue Education Experience, because in order to broach the challenges of managing and preserving water, you first have to understand them. Excelia has introduced the Water Fresk for first-year students across its various programmes for the 2023-2024 academic year. We are well aware of the urgent need to inform and educate as many people as possible about climate change issues, and in particular the business professionals of tomorrow. So, as a Gamemaster for the Fresk, it’s a pleasure to be part of this major awareness-raising exercise; to be the light that guides students in their learning and discovery.”

Moving towards a sustainable future
Through initiatives such as the Water Fresk, integrated into the Blue Education Experience, the school is playing a crucial role in educating future actors of change. Fully aware of environmental issues, they will be able to rise to the challenges of the ecological transition and actively contribute to preserving our planet for future generations.
The Water Fresk workshops took place from 7th - 15th September for Year 1 students on the Master in Management, Bachelor in Tourism & Hospitality Management, Bachelor in Business and BBA International.
